PSUK Road Race Championships
National Emergency Services Road Race Championships
Location: Clitheroe, Lancashire
Event: 21 April 2012
This took place over the testing Bashall Eaves Circuit just North West of Clitheroe, Lancashire.
Peter Murdoch from Strathclyde Police started the action with an attack from the gun, he had a hard 1st lap as despite a good few attacks no one was up for coming with him and he spent the whole of the first lap out front on his own. At the start of the second a lap a selection was made that saw 6 or 7 riders going up the road, with Murdoch as the only Police representative while the bunch fragmented behind them resulting in a chasing group of 10 or 12. Police were well represented in the second group but despite a hard chase they were unable to close the gap.
The lead group was very active and with around a lap and a half to go Tom Black opened a gap and was not to be seen again. Graham Sumner of GBFS then got away to take second place to take the Emergency Services and Fire titles, around two minutes behind Black with Peter Murdoch taking third and 1st Police Officer. Jay Eastwood led the 2nd group in, just in front of Paul Shallicker for 2nd and 3rd Police respectively.
Murdoch said afterwards – ‘I paid for my efforts in the first lap but I was pleased to make the selection with the attacks in the front group constant and savage. My legs were on fire on the last lap so I’m really happy with this result.’
Thanks go to all the riders for making the trip to Clitheroe and to Graham Bryce and the team from CDNW who organised the event. The next race in the PSUK calendar will be the TT championships in September.
